Pet DNA Services of AZ - Sample Instructions for Equine DNA Testing

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MANE OR TAIL HAIR COLLECTION
(Equine DNA Testing)

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

For each horse or donkey, use a separate collection kit (a ziplock bag plus ID card.)

If not using a kit, you can send the hair in a sandwich type ziplock bag, or a small envelope. (Please do not seal envelope by licking the flap, as any cells present in saliva can contaminate the sample and compromise the accuracy of the test!)
Fill out an ID card (if submitting without a kit, please just indicate on a slip of paper: name and/or ID#, breed/registry, sex, color, markings, owner) and place it in the bag.
With each shipment include a filled-out form providing your name, address & contact information, your equine's information (breed/registry, name, sex, ID, tests requested), and payment method. Please attach an additional sheet if more space is needed.

NOTE: Please provide information on your equine's breed, name, and registration number (including what registry), as you would like it to appear on the DNA Certificate.
The cost is US $40 per single test per horse or donkey. (We accept Check, Money Order, Visa, Master Card, Paypal.)
Results will be available within 7-10 business days after receiving specimen(s).

This is not a requirement, but if possible, please also submit a color picture of your horse or donkey (a printout, or email to genes@petdnaservicesaz.com)

MANE or TAIL HAIR Collection:

Do not send clipped hair!! Roots are required for DNA testing.
Wrap 20-30 hair strands (mane or tail) around your finger and pull firmly (Tail hair is preferred from young foals.)
Make sure the hair root bulbs (follicles) remain attached to the strands.
Place hair into the bag, with the ID card, and seal.
